Check out http://www.clivebarker.info for an interview where clive states that there will now be a book 5 of abarat! He needs the extra book to tell the story fully and to do his mythology proper justice. It seems as though it will be autumn 2007 before we see publication of book 3 as curently he is finishing up writing "the scarlet gospels". At least it seems as though all the abarat paintings are done for book 3, thats good news i reckon.

Another year to wait for Abarat 3... but at least we get Abarat 5 as an award for waiting! I'm so thrilled that the series is longer... there's always this heaviness after you finish a series... like the last period closed off a part of you that can't be opened again. It's a bittersweet moment. But, I'm also thrilled that he's so excited about it, because it means that it's going to be a wonderful book! I'm also really glad that he mentioned the Thief of Always movie... for some reason that confirmed in my brain that it's definitely going to happen. Now I just want some more confirmation on the Abarat movie!

I told my Abarat-loving friend about the fifth book, and then told her that the third book was going to take a while longer to come out. She was angry about the longer wait. I don't blame her! I remember the first day Abarat was put into the library, and I remember the first time I read it, and since then I have been waiting so patiently for the second book and now the third book! So much waiting! I wish I was more patient...

I remember when they first put it on the shelf at Barnes & Nobles. I was drawn in by the art work on the cover. I read the back and at first I was like 'do I really want to read a book about a girl from a chicken farm' but then I read the first few pages and was like 'this is pretty good'. I wanted to buy the hard copy with the pictures but I coudn't afford it at the time so I bought the smaller edition without it and yes I read it all in a day. It was awesome I luber it!

Here's something interesting for everyone to think about. It was part of an interview with Clive.
"What's touching Abarat are actually more emotional pieces of metaphysics; I mean what happens when you find out you are not the person you thought you were, but in fact two people in one, how you separate yourself off, is it possible to separate yourself off from someone that you have lived with for sixteen years, particularly if that person doesn't necessarily - and I'm giving a hint here - doesn't necessarily mean you good."
That along with what Clive said about Candy's sexuality leads me to believe that Candy falls for Finnegan. I don't see any other reason why Boa would not mean Candy good. Unless of course she was just evil from the beginning. Was it only me who thought there was something between Candy and Finnegan at the end of book 2? It might just be my imagination, I don't know.
About Carrion, I always thought he died. And I think Mater Motley thought that, too. I just assumed she was happy to take over, which is why there was no mourning. Of course, I really hope he's not dead. I want him to be alive, not only because he's the best villain ever, but because I want to see him with Candy, too. Before I read this thread I thought I was the only one. lol
Oh, I almost forgot the other thing Clive said!
"The third book will be an enormous book, and I know what's going to happen, or at least I know in broad strokes, and I know that's going to contain a lot of stuff which, in a weird way, I've been learning in the time since I finished the other book."
So, really, I think it's worth the wait if the book is going to be enormous, right? Not to mention the fifth book.
